This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Dados Sobre o Projeto

The Glanville fritillary Melitaea cinxia (Linnaeus, 1758) is one of Norway’s rarest butterflies. The species is listed as critically endangered (CR) in the current Norwegian Red List for Species 2021. The Glanville fritillary has had a strong decline in Norway during the last 20–30 years, and during the period 2010–2024, the species has only been found on the island Rauer (military area) in Fredrikstad municipality in Viken county in Norway. The data presented here consists of counts of larval nests in the period 2015-2016, 2018-2024.

Título Kartlegging og overvåking av prikkrutevinge (Mapping and monitoring of the Glanville fritillary Melitaea cinxia)
Financiamento Tilskudd til trua arter, Miljødirektoratet
Descrição da Área de Estudo The study area is Rauer, an island located on the east side of the Oslofjord, northwest in Fredrikstad municipality outside Engelsvik and Hankø. There has been agricultural activity here since the 17th century, and it has been several farms, homesteads and fishing huts there. The Norwegian defense has had activity there since 1913, and from 1947 the whole island has been a military area. It is disembarkation ban on the entire island, which has meant that the human impacts on the island the last 70 years are mainly due to military activity and to a lesser extent other human activities (recreation, development, agriculture, etc.). The Norwegian Armed Forces have been stationed on the island until 1997, when Rauøy fort was closed down. Today, the island is mainly used for military training purposes.
Descrição do Design In the periode 2015-2016 and 2018-2024, larges parts of the island have been surveyed for the presence of larval nests of the Glanville fritillary. Potential and actual patches have been surveyed and every larval nests mapped. The area searched have been varying between years.

Métodos de Amostragem

Each patch was investegated by searching the area systematically at about three meters intervals. Every larval nest was counted and plotted with GPS.

Área de Estudo Potential patches for the Glanville fritillary have been defined based on 1) aerial photo assessment, 2) an overall assessment of the sub-areas in the field and 3) the density of the hostplant Plantago lanceolata.
Controle de Qualidade No larval nests were opened to examine the presence or number of larvae, and some may therefore possibly have been empty. The number of patches investigated varies between years.

Descrição dos passos do método:

  1. Each larval nest was plotted using Qfield on an Android unit.
