Description
Insects were sampled with malaise traps and vascular plants (focus on non-native species) were surveyed in transects at 15 localities (250 x 250 m), mainly in urban areas, in South-East Norway in September and October 2018. Plants were identified in field by botanical experts, insects (Lepidoptera) were sorted from trap samples and identified by a taxonomic expert.
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 1,260 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Project Data

Study Area Description | South-east Norway: 15 localities near Drammen, Oslo, Moss and Halden. Autumn 2018: September - October. Terrestrial vascular plants, insects and spiders. |
Design Description | The project goal is to design a surveillance scheme to facilitate early detection of new non-native species of terrestrial plants and insects (and spiders), followed by rapid response. In 2018 we sampled 15 field sites in relatively urban areas to assess the potential for registering non-native species at such sites. |
The personnel involved in the project:
Sampling Methods
Two experienced botanists surveyed plants in transects at each locality, only registering plants they considered to be non-native. They performed the surveys independently, and each locality was surveyed once by each botanist. Species were identified in field. Each survey was restricted to maximum 2 hours. Insects were sampled with malaise traps, one trap per locality. The trap was operated during September and emptied three times through the period. Lepidoptera were sorted from the samples and identified by a taxonomic expert.

Method step description:
- Plants registered along transects by experienced botanists identifying species in field. Insects sampled in malaise traps and Lepidoptera identified by a taxonomist.
