Description

Vegetation species data recorded along 6 altitudinal transects ranging from 750 m a.s.l. to 1500 m a.s.l. in Grødalen (1994 and 2016). The data is used in the article “Vegetation response to climate warming across the forest-tundra ecotone: species-dependent upward movement” by Løkken et al. published in the Journal of Vegetation Science 2020.

Sampling Methods

Along altitudinal transects, vascular plant abundance was recorded in 1x1m quadrats.

Study Extent Site: Grødalen, central Norway. Bounding coordinates: Lat. 62°30’N-62°36’N, Long. 8°50’E-9°13’E Recording was done in summer season 1994 and 2016
Quality Control Field notes were double checked for errors

Method step description:

  1. The quadrats were divided into 16 squares (0.25 m x 0.25 m)
  2. presence/absence of all field-layer species was recorded in each square, giving an abundance of each species per quadrat as the frequency of occurrence in squares
  3. The field notes was punched into a data matrix of species vs quadrats
  4. Field notes were double checked for errors
