Description

Survey of plants and insects for early detection of new alien species in early establishment in Norwegian nature. 25 sites (250 x 250 m) in South-east Norway were surveyed in 2021, where alien vascular plants were surveyed in field by experienced botanists (5 hour upper time limit) and insects were sampled by malaise traps during May, June, July and August. Coleoptera and Lepidoptera were identified morphologically from 10 samples (all 100 samples from the malaise traps were analysed by DNA-metabarcoding, data not presented here but stored in a separate database at NINA).

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 2,336 records.

Project Data

Prosjektet "Tidlig oppdagelse og varsling av fremmede arter" går ut på overvåking av fremmede terrestriske arter av karplanter og insekter, med mål om å oppnå tidlig oppdagelse og varsling av nye fremmede arter i Norge. Prosjektet startet med et pilotprosjekt høst 2018 (15 ruter), og ble videre testet i 2019 (20 ruter). Fra og med 2020 gjennomføres standardisert kartlegging av 25 ruter årlig, til og med 2024. Rutene blir kartlagt for fremmede karplanter av erfarne botanikere og malaisefeller blir satt opp for innsamling av insekter.

Design Description The project goal is to conduct regular surveillance that facilitates early detection of new non-native species of terrestrial plants and insects (and spiders). Surveyed sites (250 x 250 m) are selected in areas with higher probability of occurrence of alien species. Experienced botanists registred alien plants and insects are sampled by malaise traps.

Sampling Methods

Experienced botanists surveyed alien plants at each locality. Species were identified in field. Each survey was restricted to maximum 5 hours. Insects were sampled with malaise traps, one trap per locality. The trap was operated during May - August and emptied four times through the period. Lepidoptera and Coleoptera were sorted from the samples and identified by taxonomic experts.
