Description
Monitoring of Herminium monorchis was established in 2014 at the three known localities for the species. A total of 40 permanent plots of size 50 x 50 m2 were established, and the number of ramets have been counted annually (except 2018) within the permanent plots. In 2016 a new locality was discovered, and monitoring was established here in 2020. In 2021, the monitoring was expanded and it now covers 67 plots, distributed at the localities Skipstadsand (15 plots), Skjellvik (27 plots), Teneskjær (15 plots) and Filletassen (10 plots). The dataset contains number of fertile and vegetative ramets within plots, and variables on vegetation structure in the plots.
Data Records
The data in this sampling event resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 533 records.
2 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Sampling Methods
A set of permanent plots were randomly established at each of the three localities known in 2014. All Herminium monorchis plants were marked, and plots were placed around a randomly drawn set of plants; 10 at each of the localities Skipstadsand and Teneskjær, and 20 at Skjellvik. Plots were marked with aluminium tubes. In 2021 the sampling was extended. Transects were established across the localities, and plots were systematically placed at 10 m distances along the transects. At the fourth locality (Filletassen), monitoring was established in 2020. Eight transects were established from the mid-point of the locality in the directions N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, and NW. 10 locations along the transects were randomly selected and permanent plots were established. The number of fertile and vegetative ramets woth aboveground biomass within each plot is counted annually at peak growing season.
Study Extent | The four known localities for the species; Hvaler, Viken, Norway. Annual counts of Herminium monorchis since 2014 (except 2018). |
