Description

The Chequered Blue Butterfly Scolitantides orion is one of the rarest and most threatened butterflies in Norway. According to The 2015 Norwegian Red List for Species, the Chequered Blue Butterfly is considered critically endangered (CR) in Norway. This is because a sharp decline in the species’ range in Norway has been observed, and that new surveys of old and other potential sites have not resulted in the discovery of new localities for the butterfly – except a new locality detected in Sponvika at Svinesund in Halden municipality in Østfold (Viken) county in 2017. The species is a prioritized species according to the Nature Diversity Act.

The dataset consists mainly of counts of eggs and larvae of The Chequered Blue Butterfly Scolitantides orion (as well as some adult individuals) in the period 2010-2024. The data are georeferenced with handheld GPS or on a mapsevice afterwards based on written descriptions of the site.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 4,245 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
